The gas port on your Remington 1100 is located inside of the collar that slides over your magazine tube. If you have a Magnum barrel, it will only have one gas port. This is usually 3" or 3" 1/2 chambered barrels. On 2 3/4" barrels there will be two ports.

1. Lock open the action.

2. Unscrew the barrel retaining nut from the magazine tube.

3. Remove the spring retaining cap (cautiously) and remove the spring.

4. Slide the forearm forward and off.

5. With the action open, slide the barrel forward away from the action. The barrel will have a large collar on the bottom. Look inside the collar, toward the top of the barrel. You should see a small hole (or two) along the rim of the inside top of the collar.

6. All debris should be removed from this port, but care should be taken not to scratch the inside of the barrel, or create a burr on the port.

7. Clean the magazine tube and carefully inspect the rubber o-ring for nicks, cuts or wear. Replace often.

Which barrel interchanges with a Remington model 58?

The only on besides the 58 is the 878 barrel. You can drill an 870 barrel for gas ports (you must be very careful for port placement) and that will work. The only on besides the 58 is the 878 barrel. What is the difference between a Remington 1100 and a Remington 11-87 Shotgun?

The main difference between a model 1100 and an 1187 is, the 1100 is a semi-automatic auto loading shotgun, and the 1187 is a pump shotgun. Sorry, but that doesn't appear to be correct-the 1100 and 1187 are both autoloading shotguns-the Remington Pump guns are the 870 and the 887. The 105 is also a new autoloading gun. I still can't see any difference between the 1100 and the 11 87..... The 11-87 "replaced" the 1100 for a short time. The main difference is the gas system which handled light loads and magnums without any adjustment. If you wanted a magnum in the 1100, it had a single gas port and did not handle light loads with that barrel. the 11-87 did a better job of that function than the 1100. However, the 1100 was so popular that Remington had to reintroduce it, especially among clay target shooters. Hope this helps.

Does a Model 1100 Magnum Remington shoot 2 34 shells?

I have a model 1100 Lt 20 ga. magnum and it will fire the 2&3/4 shells but will not cycle or eject them. Someone told me that the holes in the barrel to let the gas escape are different on the magnum. I bought another barrel for 2&3/4 shells and it cycles them fine with this barrel.

Looking for history of Remington Sportsman. Is there information on history of aRemington Sportsman?

The "Sportsman" is the Model 58. It was made from 1956 - 1962 and was the first gas operated automatic that Remington made. It was replaced by the Model 1100 in 1963. A variation is the 878, that uses a similar gas system. the model 58 utilized a L/H gas control knob that was also the magazine tube cap. You used the 'L' setting for light loads and the 'H' setting for heavier loads. Both the 58 and 878 used an 870 barrel with gas ports drilled near the barrel band. They were three shot capacity.

What would cause a Remington 1100 3 inch Mag shotgun not to eject trap load ammo?

The gun is not designed to function with low-dram field loads, "skeet loads" or "trap loads." The barrel only has one gas port, and these lower-power loads simply do not generate enough gas pressure to reliably operate the action. If the gun is perfectly maintained, clean, correctly lubricated and with new piston, seal and ring it will probably function well with any loads for a while but as soon as it gets dirty or builds up scale in the gas port it will begin to malfunction with anything less than full-power shells. sales@countrygunsmith.net

I need a 12ga barrel for a Remington sportsman 58?

Hi I took and 870 Barrel and had gas ports drilled into barrel and it works.. I'm not sure that Remington would approve but you might check it out with a gunsmith and get his opinion. Again I did it but that doesn't make it right so I recommend you run it by a gunsmith and see if see a problem.. I did with a slug barrel 20 years ago and have not had any problem.
