It has NOT been modified in any manner, and is exactly as presented to Col. Hays in 1847. by Samuel Colt. The Col. John C. Hays collection also has a CASED Colt Whitneyville Hartford Transition Walker, inscribed to Col. John C. Hays from Samuel colt, dated 1847 Its serial number is 1166, it is complete with a Colt Paterson styled " BEVELED" lid magohny case, a SILVER plated Colt Walker Flask, a Colt Walker transition mould, a Colt Walker tool

YOu will have to call Colt to find out.
if your pistol is of the model 1911 with serial number 189558 then it was made in 1917 by colt. If it is the revolver then the serial number is to high for the 1917 revolver.
On a Colt revolver, the serial number is generally in two places. When you open the cylinder you will find the serial number at the base of the frame & crane.
