...a man called Saint Nicholas...he tried to help the poor, especially the ladies of the night. They used to hang their washing out ...their stockings....and he one night of the year would in it place a little bag of money, some say a little parcel of food too. So this is why in traditional Christmas stockings we today have a little bag of gold covered chocolate money and a couple of pieces of fruit!
