Although Druids and Anglo-Saxons brought many evergreen plants and boughs inside as decorations during the Winter Solstice, the concept of the Christmas tree comes from the famous religious reformer of the 16th Century, Martin Luther. He is said to have noticed spruce trees laden with snow during a moonlit sleigh ride and later wrote about how beautiful they were. He also noted what a delight it would be to bring such trees inside to enjoy their splendor.
