In answer to your question: How can I look up a serial number for a Winchester gun? . There is a web page that will I am sure be of help to you. It has info on both Winchester & Browning gun's of all make's. It is Winchester.com,I hope that it will be of help to you. Good Luck.
Manufacturer's website, Proofhouse.com are two places
It is under the lever. Lift up the lever as if you were going to cock it and look at the number engraved. That's the serial number of the firearm.
This question can't be answered as serial numbers are not unique to a single firearm. Many manufacturers could have made a firearm with that serial number. The only way to answer this is to have a knowledgeable person look at the shotgun - most makers identified their product somewhere.
Look at the serial number again as this is imcomplete. Go to Browning's site, Support, Date your firearm and they have a list of dates.
age is determined by serial number...and model The company was founded in 1852 in Norwich, CT. To look up the age of a specific firearm, look up the model and serial number. Calling the company may help in this regard.
Contact your local police. If it has been reported stolen to the police they can find out.
Some makers have sn tables on their web sites that will get you in the ball park of when a firearm was made or shipped.
Look on the weapon. If this is an instance of a stolen firearm, and you need the serial number for reporting, there are a couple different ways you might be able to find it. If you have a case the firearm came with (particularly with handguns), the number could be on a tag on the case. If you remember when and where you bought it, the shop you bought it from should be able to pull up those records.
look on the barrel of the rifle, It should be clearly stamped near the breach(the end you load from). Serial numbers are not placed on the barrel, since the barrel is removable and is not considered the 'firearm.' The true serial number of the firearm is going to be located on the receiver. You do not indicate which model Winchester, though. You should also understand that .22 rifles and shotguns made prior to 1968 were not required to be serialized, and some Winchesters therefore did not have serial numbers.
Depends on the firearm. You can contact me through my messge board, and if there is a public data base for THAT make and model, will try to direct you to it. Does not exist for all guns.
This may or may not be where the serial/model number is on that certain firearm but, open up the chamber and look on the small flat piece of metal just in front of the opening towards the barrel end. There 'should' be some numbers on that plate. This will be the serial and the model number of the firearm.
There are serial number lists for many Winchester models in the back of The Blue Book of Gun Values as well as several websites. Look for a link on www.antiqueguns.com
