spring drives a piston that pushes air
I own a Marksman Model 740 .177 pellet rifle. It has a wood-patterned plastic stock. It is a single shot rifle that folds in the middle for cocking. The safety auto-enables after every trigger pull. You must cock and reset the safety. Hope that helps.
The Marksman BB 2020 Buddy rifle is rated at 300 FPS
The Marksman was made from the mid 70' to sometime in the 80's. Answers has no way of displaying photographs but I did a web search on "Markaman 740 air gun" and found several images of the rifle. It should not be hard to find them. It's a breal barrel rifle.
When the rifle is cocked, a spring is compressed. Pulling the trigger releases the spring, which pushes a piston forward, The piston compresses air as it moves. The compressed air blows the BB or pellet out of the barrel.
Not usually. There are several factors involved besides the spring, but the .22 will usually use a stronger spring to propel the heavier pellet.
