Several years ago we closed multiple Hallmark stores. Hallmark is privately held and therefore does not release any data about stores that close. The reason that so many Hallmark stores close in the inflexibility of Hallmark to work with their retailers. Old ways of we can pass all the costs and demands off to the owners are driving the businesses into the ground. They sell you the fixtures and then tell you that you can only use them for Hallmark product = if you choose to put other merchandise on the shelves they threaten to pull your gold crown status. It is too hard to make a living and that is why all of the stores are closing. In 2000 there were almost 5000 stores - today I believe that there are less than 2000.
