I have a Eastern Arms (sold by Sears and hardware stores) Manufactured by Iver Johnson as well as others. It is a 16 gauge single barrel shotgun model 1929. The firing pin is removed by cocking the hammer back, there is a set screw at the top of the receiver , when removed the firing pin can be removed from the hammer side;watch for the spring. Installation is the reverse.

Accidental firing defect in early model Ruger 22 cal pistols?
Early model (pre 1973, if I recall) Ruger single action REVOLVERS could fire if the hammer was struck, or the weapon dropped onto the hammer, and the hammer was resting on a loaded chamber. Ruger implemented a voluntary recall, and installed a hammer block to prevent this from happening. The design was changed to a transfer bar system that will not fire when hammer is struck. FWIW, the old style single action revolvers from MOST makers would do that- best practice was to keep hammer resting on an empty chamber. Do not know of a problem with ADs from their PISTOLS, just the revolvers.

A typical single action pistol or revolver requires that the hammer be manually cocked. In the case of an autoloading pistol, such as the 1911AI .45, the hammer must be cocked before firing the first shot. With a single action revolver, such as the Colt Peacemaker, the hammer must be cocked before each shot. A double action handgun does not require manual cocking of the hammer- you pull the trigger, and the hammer rises and falls. An example would be the Smith & Wesson Model 10 .38 Special. The hammer may ALSO be cocked manually before a shot. Some handguns are DAO- double Action Only- the hammer may not be cocked manually- they are fired by pulling the trigger, which will cause the hammer to rise and fall.
