How many nuclear warheads did the US have in Europe in 1967?
In 1967 the Secretary of Defense disclosed that the US had 7,000
nuclear warheads in Europe. Prior to this announcement, the
European host nations knew where these warheads were and so did the
Soviet Union. The US Congress was the last organization to know
this fact. Government secrecy under US President Lyndon B. Johnson
was a government priority.
