if you look into the matter, you will find that Egyptian sun gods (such as Ra & Horus) were said to be reborn daily at sunrise and yearly at the winter solstice-the shortest day of the year. Yearly this translates for us to be around Dec 21 or Dec. 22 (note this is not the 25th or Christmas).
