You have to have a facebook account, but you can just go to farmtown.com, type your facebook login, and it will take you straight to farmtown.
"going public" means announcing/releasing the news/product to other people. Like a couple changes their facebook status from 'single' to 'in relationship', or a company becomes an Ltd and 'goes public' as in open to everyone to buy a share. In princible a thing can 'go public' only once.
