If you stated your pills on day one or two of your cycle, you are covered from the start. If you start your pills later into your cycle, you are covered after taking 7 pills - in 7 days. So one week, as long as you don't miss any pills.
Remember nothing is 100%, so using condoms along with The Pill is still a good idea and will also protect you from catching an STD.
