It depends on what type of games you like. If you like Role-Playing Games, then World of Warcraft is pretty great... but you have to pay a monthly fee. One of the best free ones is Runes of Magic. If you prefer arcade type games, then Bejeweled is a very fun one. Word games... Scrabble, or Bookworm is pretty good... Facebook games, strategy games, card games... there are so many options, and top choices in each category.

well, if you're looking for just plan fun and will be over it a few weeks later I'd recommend pendemic II, line rider 2, age of war one or two, box clever, the game (funny as hell) and several sniper games if your looking for puzzles. You could also go to club penguin but I hear alot of bad crap about viruses on that. You oculd google some online Board Games, i know there are plenty of them. You could also get a free account on Roblox and play thousands of different games with your own epic avatar (read game descriptions many do have rules). If your willing to pay $25 you could play minecraft whenver you want (no you don't have to pay monthly. You basicly purchase the game). Or theres runescape of coarse, which is free but takes forever to level up and is more fun with a membership. I would recommend maxgames out of all these sites though.
