Remington made those in the 60s thru 80s the Remington 7600 took its place they look identical, there a piecpiece of shyt, I always had problems with the 3 I owned and because of that there verry cheap to buy, a few hundred bucks at the most
the serial number is not a remington rand serial number. it is a colt commercial 1911. you have a rem-rand slide on a colt frame. sorry.
Your remington model 700 which has a letter A prefix to the serial number, indicates that it was made in 1980.
Go to: http://www.remington.com/products/archived/centerfire/autoloading/model-742-woodsmaster.aspx look up the serial block number on the firearm compared to what the dates are on the link. Its not exact but it gives you a approximate time
