Answer: the Slavic peoples are divided into three groups: eastern, western, and southern. The eastern group includes Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarussians. The western group includes Poles, Czechs, and Slovaks. The southern group includes Slovenes, Croats, Serbs, Bosniaks, Macedonians, and Bulgarians.
Western Slavs, as well as Slovenes and Croats, are Roman Catholic while the other groups are Orthodox Christians. Bosniaks, however, are mostly Sunni Muslims.
Another difference is that western Slavs, as well as Slovenes, Croats, and Bosniaks, use the Roman alphabet to write their respective languages while the other Slavic groups use the Cyrillic alphabet.
