According to: http://Alamo.nmsu.edu/~lockhart/AlamMilk/chap5/chap5.htm "Early in 1930, Alamo Dairy [in Texas] placed an ad for their Jersey milk and cream that included a price list. Whole milk at wholesale was 45¢ a gallon, 14¢ a quart, retail."

Very few grocers sold milk by the gallon. One dairy in Texas did though, and they charged 45 cents per gallon.

At the time, and in most areas milk was delivered directly to homes from local dairy's in either pint or quart returnable bottles every morning.
