The Atlantic slave trade took place across the Atlantic ocean. Slaves were sold to labor in things like - coffee, gold, cotton, cocoa, silver, rice fields and to be house slaves.
It was callled the Middle Passage.

Most of the slaves sent to the Americas originally came from West and Central Africa. They were captured and sold by African slave traders to European slave traders, who then transported them across the Atlantic Ocean to be enslaved in the New World colonies.
Many Africans died from diseases on the journey.

The journey of Africans who were brought as slaves to the Americas is known as the Transatlantic Slave Trade. This was a brutal and inhumane system where millions of Africans were forcibly taken from their homelands and transported across the Atlantic Ocean to be sold as slaves in the New World.

The lower part of a slave ship where slaves were kept was called the "hold." It was a dark and overcrowded space where slaves were shackled together and forced to stay during the journey across the Atlantic Ocean.
It was called the Middle Passage and they were chained into the bottom of the ship. Many would die on the trip. In the book To Be a Slave there are firsthand accounts of the trip and the life of a slave.
