Slavery as a vocabulary term is the enslavement of another person or when a person is made or forced to do physical labor or work for no pay and harsh conditions. Basically the person you work for is your master and you are owned by him for the restof your life unless you can escape or buy your freedom.

Slavery in American history refers to the period of time in which Africans were imported from Africa as slave workers who were unfairly treated as inhumans and sold to masters who would force them to work long hours on plantations in the South without pay. They were treated very cruelly and were not freed unless they somehow saved up money and bought their freedom or unless someone bought it for them. Also slavery ended in America in/after the Civil War when Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Still afterwards, African Americans were not really treated equally until the Equal Rights Movement. Still even today there is a lot of prejudice against African Americans.

There are many times in history where a people has enslaved another people. This is only one example.
