If someone asks you out, you can to consider two things. One: whether or not you like them enough to date them. And Two: if you actually see yourself with this person.

Afterwards, when you have considered these two things, just either say: "Let me get back to you", or "Yes", or "Maybe". If you have to say "No", then do so with grace and niceness, because no one likes being rejected.

One thing, definitely NOT to do is shame them out! Especially if they are a nice person.

More advice from other contributors:

  • If you want to say "No, I don't want to date you, but we can be friends", then don't. Hearing that will make most people feel even worse. You could instead say "I'm sorry, no. I still like you / enjoy your company / like hanging around with you though". It's a small difference, but it sounds much more like the truth that way. Of course only say that if you really would like to stay or become friends.
