The Northern States were against slavery because they didn't see it as a humane form of labor, and didn't need slavery as their main form of labor was industrial.

The Southern States wanted to keep slavery as a form of agricultural labor so they left the United States to form the succeeded states aka the Confederate States of America.

New york was a slavery state even it was at north
