Kiddie Pools should be emptied and refilled for each use. There are two reasons: (1) It is not filtered or treated with chemicals, so it is very unsanitary (you know kids are peeing in there) (2) If you leave it filled it is a drowning hazard not only for your kids, but neighborhood kids as well.
You should run your pump about 12 hours each day to keep water clean. You can put your pump on a timer to save money. Don't do that until your water clean and clear. If you are still working to get your water just right you need to keep your pump going full time.
