Simple carbs (almost anything white, ie white bread, white rice, pasta) and of course processed sugary junk is a "simple" carb. Some carbs (ie complex carbs, sweet potatoes, whole grains, etc) are good for you if balanced and along with proper protein intake and exercise can build muscle. Muscle burns fat. Got to exercise, and don't be afraid of the weight room, cardio is good but lifting weights can be even more effective. Remember more muscle = less fat.
