Can you become a pro tattoo artist without a course?

It can be done, but it is quite uncommon. The problem is, is that a lot of shops look at people who have had no formal training and do it out of home as "scratchers". A quite unfortunate thing that so many of the cool kids in my profession have that kind of mentality, but for the most part, it is true. A lot of people who just feel their way through it in the beginning make a lot of amateur mistakes, and you will carry around the stigma of being that kind of tattoo artist overall by professionals. So, get a formal apprenticeship. It will take you a lot farther and will yield to you the most rewarding results.
