It really depends on your preference. If you like a traditional mop and bucket, I've found the Liebman mops work well. I don't care for sponge mops because they tend to dry with an odor. I've recently discovered the Swiffer Wet Jet which I really like because it's quick to use.

Yes a vacuum works very well on tile floors, just set it on the floor setting. I always vacuum my tile floors before I wash or mop them. The vacuum picks up the loose dirt and and hair from the floor, and it makes it much easier to mop and clean.

because wood and water dont mix! you should never do anything more than DAMP mop hardwood, if its that dirty get on your hands and knees and scrub it
