Ecstacy (MDMA or methylenedioxymethamphetamine) CAN HAVE MANY FALSE POSITIVES DURING A DRUG TRIAGE SCREEN FOR AMPHETAMINE-LIKE COMPOUNDS. Thses compounds are commonly found in OTC products for cough which contain decongestants, such as phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine, pseudoephedrine. Some products are Nyquil, Allerest, Sudafed, anything with a "-d" suffix as Tavist-D. Also, certain diet meds such as Dexatrim/Accutrim may cause false positives due to the strong cross-reactivity of these compounds with assay reagents used for amphetamine triage tests. Anything such as Citrimax, HCA, bitter melon is actually a synephrine molecule and will cause a false positive.
