In order for your question to be answered correctly, you will have to provide a detailed description of your rifles overall condition, bore condition, amount of original finish remaining on the firearm(wood and metal) in a percentage basis.Example 50% of the blueing and wood finish. Then i could assign a correct value to your rifle. Please include the caliber also, and the serial number if you want the year of production.
There is no such thing as a "Winchester 1884". There were two distinctly different Winchester Models that were made to chamber the 32-40 cartridge; (1) The Model 1885 Single Shot (falling block) Rifle (2) The Model 1894 Lever-Action Rifle The potential collector value for each is significantly different.
Is your Winchester a falling block style single shot? If so, you have a Model 1885. The caliber is stamped on the top of the barrel between the rear sights and the frame ring.

Yes there is a Savage Model 72. It is a .22 LR single shot with an octagon barrel. It has a Falling or Rolling block action. They were made around the early to mid 70's.
What you are asking about is a Model 1885. Depending upon when exactly it was made (the serial number will tell us that), it should be marked either "30 U.S." or "30 ARMY".
It's not BW it's RW, which stands for Remington Works. If it's a pump it's a Model 12, a semi-auto with tub in stock a model 241, otherwise I need more details could be several models if a rolling (falling) block single shot.
The savage/Stevens model 74 single shot falling block action rifle was made from 1972-1989.It is chambered in .22LR caliber with a 22in round barrel, open sights, color case hardened frame, and a straight stock.
Would depend on exactly which model, what features, and in what condition. Pictures would help. sales@countrygunsmith.net
There is no such thing as a Winchester "single barrel single shot hammer action model 12"The Winchester Model 12 is a slide-action (pump) repeating shotgun. The only Winchester model that I can think of that remotely resembles your description is a Model 1885 falling block (lever actuated) single shot with an external exposed hammer. All of them were made in 20 gauge, with a 26" long nickel steel barrel. The upper tang (right behind the hammer) will be marked as follows; "PAT. OCT 7th 79."If that is what you have, please look on the lower tang (behind the lever) for the serial number and let me know what it is. With it, I can determine when it was made.Bert H.Bert H.I have a 20 gauge Winchester with the PAT. OCT 7TH 79. The number you asked about on my gun is 98450. Can you assist me with any information about the gun. Approximately what year it was made and I know it is hard to place a value site unseen, but can you tell me if the gun is something that would be of interest to anyone? Thank you. Gary BurgessHello Gary,The serial number on your Model 1885 is not correct (original) for a 20 GA. high-wall shotgun. In fact, serial number 98450 was originally a 1st variation Winder Musket in 22 L.R., manufactured in March of 1905.The 20 GA. high-wall shotgun was introduced in 1913 at circa serial number 113,000. I suspect that the lower tang (which is removable) on your Model 1885 was swapped out of an earlier vintage gun. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact me at Win1885@msn.com
Which model?
My research indicates about $300.00 in good condition, and that is for a model 4 in .32 long caliber.
The weight is 8 3/4 lbs.
