Should be on the action, Sportsman could be the 48 or 58 semi auto. Sportsman models have little parts left so try not to break any.
I just bought one for $200, so perhaps that's in the ballpark. The condition is good to very good with very few, very small scratches or dings.
The Remington model 58 sportsman,semi-auto shotguns are valued at between 110-275 dollars for a gun with a plain barrel. You can add 50 dollars for a model with a vent rib barrel.
Go to Remington's web site and look under their Firearms History section.
Can't usually get more then $300 for them but in Very Fine, maybe $350+
The Remington Model 12 Sportsman came in semi-auto or pump configurations, and were made from 1984-1986 (vintage?). The auto is booked at $300 in 100% condition and $150 in 60%. The pump from $275 to 140. (Add 10% if it has Rem-chokes).
OK, by finding the Sportsman in an old reference I discover that it is the Model 11C. When I find that model in a newer book, it is indeed built under license from FN using the Browning Auto 5 patent. Suggested value in NRA Very Good condition is $250 and $300 in Excellent.
