All 1980 Canadian cents were struck in bronze. If you suspect you have an off-metal strike made on a nickel blank please test it with a magnet first; if it's made of pure nickel the coin will stick. If it is, you should have your coin evaluated to see if it was struck on a blank intended for another denomination. Otherwise, it's probably nothing more than an ordinary cent that's been discolored in some way.

The "P" is the mintmark of the Philadelphia Mint. All U.S. coins from 1980 to 2012 made at this mint have a "P" mintmark. It's just a nickel, spend it.
