Fn, or 'Function,' is a modifier key on manykeyboards, especially on laptops, used in a compactlayout to combine keys which are usually kept separate. It is typically found on laptops, since a full sized keyboard would be difficult to fit in a laptop chassis. It is also found in many full-sized 'multimedia' and 'office' keyboards, named F Lock key. It is mainly for the purpose of changing display or audio settings quickly, such as brightness, contrast, or volume, and is held down in conjunction with the appropriate key to change the settings.
The Fn button is the function key. A key that works like a shift key to activate the second function on a dual-purpose key.
The FN key is reliable for all F key needs. However, if the FN key is selected twice it will separate primary function from dual function.
scroll lock + fn key
The "Fn" key is a modifier key, much like "Shift." By itself, it does nothing. Its purpose is to use an alternative function, such as volume control or to switch to another monitor, that has been mapped to a key on the keyboard. Holding the Fn key and one of the other designated keys activates the function.
The purpose of the function key (often labeled as "Fn") when activating the second function on a dual-purpose key is to allow users to access alternative features or commands that are not available through the primary function of that key. For instance, on many laptops, the F1-F12 keys serve as either function keys or as shortcuts for hardware controls (like volume or brightness). By holding down the Fn key while pressing a dual-purpose key, users can toggle between these functionalities, enhancing overall efficiency and usability.
All Macs should have a fn key in the very bottom left corner. It is under the Shift key and next to the control key.
A: ur numlock key is active/on disable it or press function key +numlock key ----------------- i have a laptop and i somehow pressed some key and some of my keys are not working...but when i press the fn key..it works..so how do u unlock the fn ke
If you are using mac, and the f5 key does not work, it is because you are not holding down the fn key. The fn key should be on the bottom left side of your keyboard. Hold down the fn key while pressing f5 and it should work. Hope this helps!
Where is the FN key on a Logitech keyboard? Last row, 6th button.

Pres the "FN" key while hitting the NumLock (Num) key one OR MORE times, depending on the sign on the "Status indicator panel" (E-Series). When the Num Lock indicator has vanished, the FN key is deactivated.
