I was thinking about buying new carpet. How much, on average, would a carpet installation cost me?
Depends on which one you choose. Price per sq. ft usually includes installation but varies with the carpet.
Depending on where you are purchasing your carpet the installation may or may not be included. Generally retailers advertise if the installation is included as this is a big selling point for many consumers.
When you are choosing new carpet for your home, you will also need to consider the costs for the installation of your new carpet. If you install the carpet yourself, you will also need to purchase carpet matting and tack strips as well as any tool costs associated with installation. Sometimes the matting will come with the purchase of the carpet. You will need to consider any labor costs if you hire a professional to install your carpeting. You can save money by looking for deals at your local home improvement stores that offer free or low cost installation with your carpet purchase.
There really is no such thing as "builder grade " carpet. The closest definition would be low cost carpet. When buying carpet the general rule is the more it costs the better the carpet. The cost for installation is a bit trickier because installation prices can vary widely from area to area and also depends on what the installer will be doing ie; wood floor or concrete, a lot of seams, hiring a helper, etc. Unlike buying carpet paying more doesn't necessarily mean a better installation. So, the answer to your question in my opinion and in my area of the country would be about $9 per square yard for carpet and installation (not including padding). But at those prices I honestly wouldn't expect much.
Measure the area of the space to be covered. Multiply by the cost of the unit area of the carpet. A typical economy carpet at Lowe's is about $2.25 per square foot including pad, plus $97 for installation of any number of rooms. A pretty nice carpet runs about double - around $4.50 per square foot. If you need only carpet for one room (up to about 12' by 18') a remnant store is your best bet. A typical one room price is about $150 or so plus installation.
My friend installs carpet and one time I went on a job with him. He did not ask the family to move anything as he has helpers to do that. The price he gave them was for installation and moving the furniture. So the answer is it will not cost you any more if the furniture is in the way.
The cost of carpet for a 800 square foot basement depends on the price of the carpet. It can cost upwards of 1.50 per square foot.
I am getting new carpet installed, what should I do to prepare myself for new carpet installation? What should I do to have my house ready for new carpet installation?
Why would you want to know this? The only way to find out is to ask the carpet installation place.
$1550 uninstalled with pad, $2025 installed with pad
A $25 a yard carpet = $2.77 per sq ft. 25 / 9 = 2.77
