It is not measured in years, but in terms of rounds fired. Parts of the rifle are measured, and replaced as they wear out. A barrel, when properly cared for, may have a life cycle as high as 50,000 rounds.

uh well there completly different guns...the m16 is a assualt rifle and the l96 is a bolt action rifle. m16 is probly the better choice if your trying to survive on a battlefield.
