Room Service is the delivery of food items to guest rooms, not to be confused with housekeeping service. The job of the Captain is to ensure that all the orders go out in a timely fashion, with everything necessary for that meal. Example: a steak knife with a steak or a soup spoon for soup, which are items that are not standard on a basic table set-up and are therefore easily forgotten. Daily amenities for groups and VIP's also go out at specific times and sometimes number in the hundreds, depending on the size of the hotel/resort and the size of the group. Special events also take place much like a banquet setting, but on a much smaller scale, for smaller groups and also for a more intimate setting which may require a room service server to be stationed in the room to serve meals and cocktails.
