I would double check that rifle. If it truly is 7x57 (rather than the German standard 7.92x57), then it could be a number of things. It may not have been manufactured in Germany, it may actually be a 7.92x57 Gewehr 98 (typically referred to as 8mm), or it is possible that it was one of the rifles manufactured under contract for export (Germany manufactured the 7x57 rifles which were exported to Brazil, South Africa, Mexico, and others), was unable to be delivered before Germany got too caught up in the war to provide shipping for them, and was pressed into service with a second line unit.

I'd be interested to see the markings on this rifle, if at all possible. If you have photographs of them, you can email them to me (my email address is on my bio page).

The value of ANY firearm is based on the exact make, model, and condition. We need all 3 factors to offer a realistic value. Sadly you only gave us the make (maybe). Without better information, we cannot provide a real answer.
