What is the difference between vacation and tour?

I consider a vacation getting away to relax. It could be a mini vacation or a trip to Another Country. To me a holiday is the 4th of July or Canada Day, Christmas, etc.

Across the Atlantic in Britain we don't use the word "vacation"; instead we use "holiday". Days such as Christmas, Good Friday etc are referred to as Bank Holidays (because the banks are closed on those days).

A vacation is either voluntary or part of a person's work criteria. One or more people can decide to take a day, week, weeks, or a month off from work voluntarily. Most workplaces give their employees either a week or two weeks off, every year. A sabbatical, is mutually agreed to by an employer: usually a college or university. The amount of time is an entire year, and the individual is expected to pursue a particular course of study during that year. It is also customary for the study to be conducted in another geographical location. He/she is paid in full for that year. Most of the time, the individual does not return to work for that particular school. It has become a well-known convenience for colleges to fire tenured professors that they normally would not be able to get rid of.

Here are some basic definitions.

vacation refers to the annual and usually paid time you get off work. In western countries, most people get at least two weeks. Where did you go for your vacation last year?

holiday is theterm used in BrE to refer to vacation (or it was when I lived there).It also refers to those days when the law says businesses must close,eg Xmas Day, Easter Monday). The bank was closed when I arrived, because yesterday was a holiday.

leave refers to timewhen you can go away from your job. It's a word mainly used by placeslike the army. But in ordinary work, people may go on sick leave. He has a very bad back, so he is away on sick leave.

day off is a day when I don't have to work, for almost any reason.

TOUR is something you plan for many places to visit by staying in a hotel kind of thing. This involves long journeys and tiredness yet you ll find excitement. This is preferred by people who like travelling and who are adventorous.

VACATION is you decide a place like : a resort in deep inside of forest, a resort in a lonely island.. and you spend your entire holiday there from morning till evening. Here you wont travel. You will relax yourself . This is preferred by people who want to releive from stress
