It has to be one word, undernutrition (form of malnutrition).
undernutrition
Undernutrition can be classified into three main categories: acute malnutrition (wasting), chronic malnutrition (stunting), and micronutrient deficiency (hidden hunger). Acute malnutrition refers to a rapid decline in weight due to a severe lack of food, chronic malnutrition arises from long-term food deprivation leading to stunted growth, and micronutrient deficiency occurs when essential vitamins and minerals are lacking in the diet.
Under nutrition is signs of more serious malnutrition This is when nutritional reserves are depleted and nutrient and energy intake is not sufficient to meet day to day needs or added metabolic stress. Over nutrition is an excess of nutrient and energy intake over time. In a sense, over nutrition is another form of malnutrition, especially when excess caloric intake produces harmful body weight.

Malnutrition is the lack of proper nutrition; inadequate or unbalanced nutrition. Undernutrition is a nutritional deficiency resulting from lack of food or from the inability of the body to convert or absorb it. For instance the substance called intrinsic factor is required for the absorption of the B-12 vitamin and this substance is produced in the stomach. After some surgeries like gastric bypass, the ability for the food to interact with the acid in the stomach is reduced and the absorption of B-12 is inhibited to the point where the body has a deficiency. This would be undernutrition. Not eating enough foods, or taking enough supplements to provide enough B-12 that would otherwise be absorbed would be malnutrition.
The concept of the dual burden was introduced by nutritionists who recognized that individuals in developing countries face the coexistence of undernutrition and overnutrition within the same population. This dual burden of malnutrition poses a challenge for public health efforts, as interventions must address both ends of the malnutrition spectrum simultaneously.
What is under nutrition
Undernutrition (or Malnutrition) is a condition caused by the lack of proper nutrients over a period of time. This condition can be the result of not eating enough, not eating enough of what you need for a balanced healthy diet, or excessive loss of nutrients. Undernutrition occurs when for an extended period of time, the body is not given the nutrients that it needs (vitamins, minerals, proteins, calories) to properly function.
- Chronic persistent hunger may be caused by these two conditions: Undernutrition: not getting enough to eat, weak immune system Malnutrition: Poorly balanced diet, not enough carbs, protein, vitamins, minerals, etc. Makes body prone to common diseases (diarrhea, influenza) - Famine is a condition of rapid and severe undernutrition, where food shortages occur because of an inability to grow or collect food.
kwashiorkor is a syndrome due to severe protien deficiency whereas maramus (marasmus) is a syndrome due to a deficiency in both protien and calories.
