Auxiliary fuel tanks are additional fuel tanks installed on aircraft to increase their range or endurance. They are used to extend the aircraft's flight time and allow it to fly longer distances without the need for frequent refueling stops. These tanks can be mounted internally or externally on the aircraft, depending on the design and requirements.
The Airbus A300 is a 266 seat short/medium-range twin-engined aircraft that entered service in 1974. The Airbus A380 is a 853 seat long-range four engined aircraft that entered service in 2007.
The range of rotary and fixed wing aircraft is variable to type, speed, conditions, and fuel capacity. Furthermore, the use and capability of air-to-air refueling can increase the range and endurance of aircraft almost indefinitely. Some rotary wing aircraft can also carry supplemental fuel tanks and bladders to further increase range.
