There are a number of possibilities. There are those that say the only difference is in what the experience feels like. However, many people find such an explanation unsatisfactory. They want an explanation, which appeals to something more tangible then the abstract notion of what our experiences feel like.

Many ideas have been dismissed such as one sense uses eyes and the other ears. The most plausible suggestion is that seeing is different to hearing because our method of seeing is dedicated to something different to our method of hearing.

For example when you see your senses are dedicated to colour, motion and perspective, whereas your ears are dedicated to sensing pitch and volume. Therefore, the difference is a result of what your senses are dedicated to sensing. They specifically pick things out for your experience.

Seeing is the perception of light waves through the eyes, allowing us to interpret and understand our surroundings visually. Hearing, on the other hand, is the perception of sound waves through the ears, allowing us to interpret and understand auditory information and communication. Both senses play key roles in how we experience and interact with the world around us.
