The main difference is that the modified Avoca method has only one access to the part of the ore-body being mined. Conventional Avoca has two accesses which enables separation of the drill-blast and backfilling cycles i.e backfilling can be undertaken simultaneously with the drill-blast process.
With only one access the cycle must be disrupted to allow backfilling of the stope voids
