What is the difference between hardware and equipment?

Hardware is defined as tools, machinery, and other durable equipment for manufacturing or operating a business; the machines, wiring, and other physical components of a computer or other electronic system; or the implements, and other items used in home life and activities such as gardening or carpentry.

Equipment is defined as the necessary items for a particular purpose. That can mean the hardware as defined above or the things needed for such purposes as sewing, cooking, painting, office functions, etc. or furnishings for a store, restaurant, hotel, or any kind of business.
