ADR (American Depository Receipt) refers to a certificate issued by a U.S. bank representing ownership of shares in a foreign company, traded on a U.S. stock exchange. GDR (Global Depository Receipt) is a similar instrument but is traded on international markets outside the U.S. Both ADRs and GDRs allow investors to invest in foreign companies without directly owning their shares.
