A software virus attaches itself to a program or file and requires user action to spread, while a software worm can self-replicate and spread without user intervention. Viruses need a host file to infect, while worms can move across networks independently.

How does a worm virus work?

A worm virus is a type of malware that self-replicates and spreads over computer networks, exploiting vulnerabilities in software to infect other devices. Once a device is infected, the worm can execute malicious actions like stealing data, causing damage, or creating backdoors for further attacks. Worm viruses can spread rapidly, causing widespread damage if not contained quickly.

What is a difference between a worm and a virus?

A virus is a program that is designed to spread from file to file on a single PC, it does not intentionally try to move to another PC, and it must replicate, and execute itself to be defined as a virus. A worm is designed to copy itself (intentionally move) from PC to PC, via networks, internet etc. A worm doesnt need a host file to move from system to system, whereas a virus does. So worms spread more rapidly then viruses. The word 'Virus' has become a common term a lot of people use to refer to worms and trojans too. Which is not exactly correct.

Do the terms virus and worm actually mean the same thing?

No, virus and worm have different meanings in the context of computer security. A virus is a piece of code that can replicate itself by attaching to a legitimate program, while a worm is a standalone program that can self-replicate and spread independently without needing to attach itself to another program.

How do we name viruses?

We name Computer Viruses depending on their performance or attacking point. For example: ► I Love You Virus ► This is not actually a worm but in some parts, it is. This virus replicates itself and transfer from one device to another through email. Infected PC got emails with a Head: I Love You ► Blaster Worm ► One of the most dangerous worm on earth. This destroys different. Parts of an OS. Called blaster worm because it terminates S0 of a PC.

What is the difference between the reproductive system in the human and a worm?

The human reproductive system is more complex and specialized compared to that of a worm. Humans have distinct reproductive organs such as the ovaries and testes, while worms have simpler structures for reproduction. Humans also have internal fertilization, whereas worms typically reproduce externally.
