What is the difference between a boarding school and residential school?

A boarding school refers to a school in which the school accommodates students on campus throughout the school year, including breakfast and lunch and day to day supervision. During vacations or planned holidays, students normally go home. Boarding schools are keen on a routine that is organized, comprising both academics and co-curricular activities as well as individual discipline.

A residential school on the other hand is a more comprehensive term of schools that offer full time residential facilities in addition to education. In residential schools, students spend a majority of the year in campus and the school assumes full responsibility of the academic, social and personal development of the student. Residential schools can be taken to be all boarding schools, however, not all residential schools are in the traditional boarding school format.
