Polar Bears are different from Brown bears in the following ways:
They are Larger. Averaging 1120 lbs., the males are the largest mammalian land carnivores on this Earth (Kodiak grizzly males average = 725 lbs.). They have bigger eyes and better eyesight: Polar bear's vision exceeds that of all other bears. They have a Roman type nose. A better(excellent) sense of smell. Their ears and tails are smaller, but their teeth are longer and sharper. They have bigger legs and feet, but shorter claws, also their feet are webbed to help them swim. They have a different thermoregulatory system and a more efficient digestive tract. Their have the most fur coat (the most fur-clad of all the bears). Interesting fact:It is currently agreed that polar bears are direct descendants of brown bears. They still remain genetically very similar and cross breeding them can produces fertile offspring.
Yes, there are many differences. Polar bears are the largest bear. They also have larger feet than a brown bear, and their ears are smaller to keep from freezing. Whereas a brown bear's fur is pigmented brown, a polar bears fur actually has no pigment and is hollow, and their skin is black. When sunlight penetrates their fur, it becomes trapped and turns into heat, it then gets absorbed by their dark skin. Polar bears also have more wedge-shaped bodies for swimming.
Yes, the most obvious ones, I can think of is the appearance of the animal, as well as the area where the animal lives.
Yes a Polar Bear can live out in the cold, and is a carnivore, and a Panda Bear lives in the hot in Asia, and is an omnivore.
Yes, you will find that Polar Bears have adapted to where they live, and their weather conditions in the cold, in places like the North Pole, and Panda Bears have adapted to where they live, in the mountains of China. Also, you will most likely know, that Polar Bears are white & Panda Bears are marked with distinct bands of black and white, and the facial marking as well.
Pandas live in Yangtze basin (HEART OF CHINA).
pandas consume 1, 000 pounds of bamboo a year.
most panda die in captivity because they don't belong there or because people make house over bamboo houses or cut them down.
Yes. The Polar Bear is Ursus maritimus, distinct from the American Black Bear which is Ursus americanus and the Asiatic Black Bear which is Ursus thibetanus. The polar bear is actually much more closely related to the Brown Bear which is Ursus arctos. Arctos in this case does not refer to the Arctic, but rather the Arctic refers to arctos, the Greek word for bear. The Arctic is literally the 'land of the bear'.
Polar bears are much larger than a black bear, with males weighing around 1000 lbs whereas male black bears only topping out at 600 lbs. Polar bears appear white in colouration (actually their hairs are hollow and colourless), whereas black bears are almost all black except for white on the chest. Polar bears live in the Arctic circle, which encompasses Northern Canada and Russia, as well as Greenland and Alaska. They prefer to live on ice during winter and head inland during the brief summer months. Polar bears are carnivores, making seals, sea lions, sea elephants, whales and walruses a staple of their diet.
Black bears, on the other hand, do not live in the Arctic. They live south of the Arctic circle, and can be found in most biomes of Canada and the United States. Black bears are omnivorous, unlike Polar bears, eating everything from grass, forbs and berries to carrion, fish and grubs. The Asiatic Black Bear lives in many parts of Asia, and is also omnivorous like it's American cousin.
Polar bears and brown bears are close relatives, but while the polar is white, and the brown bear is brown, the two are around the same size. Brown bears have a stockier, shorter body, with a pronounced shoulder hump made up of powerful muscles.
The polar bear is somewhat longer, and has a longer face.
The polar bear is more carnivorous than the brown.
There is no difference. A panda is a bear. It is also called the Giant Panda to distinguish it from the Red Panda, which is a smaller animal and a completely different species (ailurus fulgens).
There are many breeds of bear, and Panda is just one such species.
