This person would normally have done your job, a job very similar to yours, or most of the duties related to your job before. Your mentor therefore has an understanding of the challenges and responsibilities you will face in completing your job. Your mentor "teaches" you and "fades out" so that eventually, you do the job on your own without their help, guidance, encouragement, etc. A mentor usually does not get paid specifically for being your mentor - they have to complete their job tasks in addition to helping teach / support you in yours. This person usually has an understanding of the company's quality and/or quantity standards that they will address with you at some point in your "training". Your mentor optimally should be unbiased towards you, because they should not have any preconceived notions about you and whether or not you will fit into the company. They should get information from the source - YOU - before starting as your "mentor".
They are being paid to do a job, and part of their job duties includes being responsible to ensure all employees under their direction are completing in a competent way all the job duties and tasks they are assigned to do in a timely fashion. They in turn have to report to someone above them how you are doing in your job, whether or not you are efficient, organized, competent, etc. Whether or not you perform your job duties reflects on their abilities as a supervisor to a degree: do they make every effort to ensure you know what your job duties are and do they make sure you are trained in performing them if you are not meeting company quality and / or quantity standards.
The senior supervisor often has information about you based on your resume, job interview, etc. that could cause them to have preconceived notions about you and whether or not you will "fit in", etc.

A Senior Mentor on WikiAnswers is a Mentor who has graduated proteges from the program and has committed to providing support and guidance to a new Mentor who has just joined the program; usually this is one of his or her own graduated proteges, but not always. The idea is to give the new members of the Volunteer Mentoring Program someone specific to rely on for answers to their Mentoring questions, just as a Mentor does this for a Supervisor who has just joined our community.
Your mentor SHOULD have introduced themselves to you, when you joined the Supervisor team. That should have enabled you to 'bookmark' them so you could contact them when needed. However - occasionally some mentors seem to 'disappear off the radar' (as happened with me). You can always message a senior supervisor, and ask them to find out who your mentor is. Just as a footnote - Suzanne (Zanababe) Benner is shown to the right of this page as a Supervisor. Her Bio page also lists her as not only a Senior Supervisor - but she's also part of the mentoring program. Therefore - I suggest you drop her a note on her message board.

One becomes a senior mentor with time and mentoring a new mentor and protege, but will be asked at the proper time.
You need to have been appointed a senior supervisor and then a badge will be placed on your profile.
A Senior Supervisor is not like a Senior Citizen where once a certain age, they are deemed into that category. A Senior Supervisor is a Super that has made many valuable contributions to WikiAnswers and has been around for a while on the site.
A mentor is a highly experienced Supervisor (sometimes a Senior Supervisor), who provides support and guidance to newly promoted Supervisors, garnered from their own hands-on experiences working as a Supervisor within the Answers.com community. You become a mentor after being a good/successful supervisor for a significant amount of time. These highly experienced supervisors are also given the responsibility of training the new supervisors in the art of being a good supervisor. If you would like to become a mentor, get in touch with Ganderton (Gregg).
