First off, they both make products at all different levels for all different types of riders. You should be deciding what type of board you want before you start focusing on brand. Second, all of the better known brands make products that hit alot of the same price points. ie A Ride board for $329 is a beginner board and will ride very similar to a Burton board for $329. Most of it is that the brand image is different. Burton is the largest, well known snowboard company out there. Salomon started in skis, but their snowboards break away from that image. They both make great products.
Burton for Snowboards. K2, atomic, salomon, rossignol, fischer, volkl, elan, nordica and dynistar are some popular ski brands. Some do snowboards as well.
Burton is probably the best brand of snowboard on the market. I would recommend a Burton over a Morrow.
