What does hmi mean?

HMI is "human machine interface" for short. It's the interaction between humans and machines. The goal of this interaction is effective operation and control of the machine on the user's end. The feed back from machines aids the operator in making operational decisions or improvement. For example, if you want to do detailed control to a machine. For main objects, you need a hmi and plc. You can do the operation on hmi's touch panel, then hmi send the command to plc, and plc deal with and process the command. Without hmi, you can't reach to the detailed controls, and only simple can be done.

What is hmi?

A Human-Machine Interface (HMI) is a user interface or dashboard that connects a person to a machine, system, or device. While the term can technically be applied to any screen that allows a user to interact with a device, HMI is most commonly used in the context of an industrial process. Although HMI is the most common term for this technology, it is sometimes referred to as Man-Machine Interface (MMI), Operator Interface Terminal (OIT), Local Operator Interface (LOI), or Operator Terminal (OT). HMI and Graphical User Interface (GUI) are similar but not synonymous: GUIs are often leveraged within HMIs for visualization capabilities.

What is difference between HMI and Monitor?

HMI / Human Machine Interface would imply two-way communication. A monitor only shows information to the user; the user cannot directly ask the monitor for information. an HMI will provide some way for the human to input data (such as a mouse). A monitor, with no way to input data would be more along the lines of an annunciator (old school ones were just a bank of lights for alarms).
