The cheapest "guns" I am aware of that are legally available are the little .25 or .32 semi automatics made by Bryco, Jennings, Jimenez, etc. - last time I checked they were somewhere around $79 each. I owned one a long time ago, and it was worse than useless: not fun to shoot, too small a caliber, and jammed all the time. Most important: the decision to buy a firearm for personal protection puts a huge burden of responsibililty on you. If you think it's as simple as spending $79 for a gun and another $50 for a couple of boxes of bullets, then you have a great deal to learn before you should trust yourself owning a gun. Find a friend who knows about guns and get them to take you shooting, several times, until you have more of an understanding of what you're getting into; visit a local gun store or range and ask a lot of questions - most gun people love to talk about it. Guns are wonderful, fun tools, but they are also extremely dangerous, and you owe it to yourself and your loved ones to be serious about it, not just cheap. Cheap will get you or someone you love maimed or killed.
