It was said to be about 30 years, however it all depended on the nature and danger of the work that the slaves were being forced to do. The slaves in the rice fields were more likely to die sooner from mosquitoes and other infections. slaves who worked in the tobacco fields had a much longer lifespan due to the fact that tobacco was not a big money crop so the owners of the plantation had to treat the slaves better in order to keep them happy and multiply.
