They started manufacturing that in 1983. It is a commercial (civilian) 1911A1, .45 ACP. Much like the Military1911A! but a couple of improvements for the privet sector.
Military now uses the Beretta M-9 (9 mil.) High powered .38 cal. 9 Mil. = .38 or close.

the colt mark 4 is a 1911 model pistol acp (automatic colt pistol ). 80 series was made during the 1980's but was not made in 40cal. from the colt factory, only in 45acp and 38 super.

don't know if the '?' mark on the serial number is supposed to be a missing number or not. Suspect your Colt was made between 1912-1913
