At this time there is no official RDA for both omega 3 and omega 6.

Experts agree however that one should be getting a minimum of 500mg of omega 3 daily, especially in the form of EPA and DHA, however 1 g is what most are leaning more towards.

In terms of omega 6, the answer is not how much we should consume, but in order to make that fat beneficial it has to be consumed in a proper ratio with the omega 3.

The best ratio for health has been listed as 3 parts omega 6: 1 part omega 3. Some other experts waiver anywhere between a 1:1 ratio to a 4:1 ratio.

Structurally how do omega-3 fatty acids differ from omega-6 fatty acids?

Like many organic compounds, the names of fatty acids such as omega-6 and omega-3 contain numbers that are used to describe the position of certain features of the molecule. In the case of omega fatty acids, the numbers 3 and 6 tell where the final carbon-carbon double bond is located. The numbers tell how many carbon-carbon bonds away from the carboxyl group this bond is. Omega-6 fatty acids are generally regarded as unhealthy when eaten in larger quantities than omega-3 fatty acids because they interfere with the omega-3's functions in the body.

What is the RDA for EFA?

As outlined in a 2003 review in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition", the conversion of ALA (Alpha-Linolenic Acid) to EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and thence to DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) is quite poor under normal circumstances, so EPA and DHA are now considered essential fatty acids, of EFAs. For optimal cardiovascular protection, the American Heart Association recommends that you consume from 0.5 to 1.8 g of EPA plus DHA, and from 1.5 to 3 g of ALA daily. You should also consume around 15 g of LA (Linoleic Acid) daily, according to a 2010 review in "Current Opinion in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Care". Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/397671-dosage-requirements-for-essential-fatty-acids/#ixzz1dtMnrtqk ... the needed balance of the Essential Fatty Acids is 5 (five) Omega-6 to 1 (one) Omega-3. This is the Omega-6 to Omega-3 balance. But, what is needed to counteract all the negative effects of eating the normal Western diet is about 1:2. For every one portion of Omega-6 you eat, you will need 2 portions of Omega-3 An optimum amount of essential fatty acid has been suggested as 3 to 6% of our daily calorie intake. Where does omega 3 and omega 6 come from?

There are many sources of omega-3 and omega- 6 comes from but in adding some omega-3 rich food we can get this from omega oil also. Some foods like fish and other seafood (especially cold-water fatty fish, such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, herring, and sardines), nuts and seeds (such as flaxseed, chia seeds, and walnuts) plant oils (such as flaxseed oil, soybean oil, and canola oil). Well, I am also using vegan omega oil from Free Spirit Group which is very affordable cost and I suggest this for all.
